This Monday marks the 20th World AIDS Day and some positive progress in the fight against the Pandemic—more people are getting AIDS education, taking precautions, and less people are getting infected. Also, nearly 3 million people in developing countries are now taking free anti-retroviral medications to prolong their lives.
We want to ask you to take a moment to remember the 22 million people who have died from AIDS related illnesses and the 33 million people who currently live with HIV/AIDS—22 million of them in Africa.
We also have some good news.
In July, “Into the Light” had its Tanzanian premiere at the Zanzibar International Film Festival and won the Ousmane Sembene Films for Development Award. We are deeply grateful to the festival and the sponsoring German non-profit GTZ for honoring “Into the Light” with this award.
Since February, “Into the Light” has also screened at the OneWorld International Documentary Festival in Prague & Slovakia as well as the Amakula Kampala International Film Festival. Everywhere “Into the Light” has played we have received touching letters from people who saw the film and were moved to take action in the fight against AIDS. None of this would have been possible without all of your support and encouragement!
On World AIDS Day, “Into the Light” will play to large audiences in Berlin, Harare, and at Cal State Fullerton in Los Angeles.
We are currently seeking partners to host movie screenings and house parties across the country and if you have ideas about hosting “Into the Light,” please contact me at Peter@IntoTheLightFilm.com.
We are also seeking wider distribution on television, so if you have contacts or suggestions that would help us bring “Into the Light” to TV, we welcome your suggestions.
Thanks for all of your support in helping bring Mama Lyimo’s AIDS journey to the world.
Happy World AIDS Day!
Peter
